Revelation 1

Summary:

Revelation 1 begins with the introduction of the book. A blessing is pronounced on those who read and hear the words of the Revelation; the setting of John’s exile is described; and the stated purpose of the message is given. The vision occurs on the lonely prison island of Patmos, on the Lord’s day. John is informed that he will be given messages to send to the seven churches of Asia. Then John sees a most impressive vision of Jesus Christ in the midst of seven golden candlesticks, which causes John to fall at his feet as dead. After John is strengthened, he is instructed that the seven golden candlesticks represent the seven churches, and that the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches.
